You know, it's funny... I had a great streak going of really good anime. Black Lagoon, Kuroko no Basket, Cowboy Bebop, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha. But today, that streak is over.

Canaan is somewhat inspired by a game for the Nintendo Wii titled 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya deand the story revolves around 3 females(one of them is named Canaan) as well as their connections to another while also dealing with some conference BS that I honestly couldn't give two craps about.

Look, the concept itself isn't bad, at least it's not in High School. My problem with it is that the "pillars" that hold up this concept are pretty weak/bad. How bad? Well let's find out.

Characters

Maybe this is because I have only seen up to Episode 3(aka: about 25% of the series), but holy fuck, I am not impressed with these characters. They are either incredibly ANNOYING(Maria), bland(Alphard), or decent(Canaan). In fact, I almost put Canaan into the 2nd category, but Episode 3 at least gave me a reason to care about this character(her relationship with Maria).

Like no joke, Episodes 1 and 2 bored the living shit out of me. It got to the point where I looked up pictures on my Deviantart account, and this:

FUCKING THAT.
Was more interesting than watching the show.

But no, I am not a fan of the characters. They may get better as time goes on, but I am not impressed thus far.

Music

Once again, the music is pretty bland and forgettable. I am not a fan of the intro/ending, and the background music is pretty bland as well. If you were to ask me to list great music from the previous two shows, I would pick pretty much any song from the Cowboy Bebop OST and the intro for Maoyuu Maou Yuusha. But if you were to ask me for this show, I couldn't give you an answer because it was pretty bad.

Animation

The animation is sub-par. It does the job, I can certainly give it that. But that's all it has going for it, the colors are pretty bland(even if it is trying to fit the setting, having it be bland the entire time can make it boring to look at(IE: Call of Duty)), the CGI is awful, and even the action scenes are just, there. It's not as eye-popping or action-filled as the previous shows with action as the main selling point and even the choreography basically screams "average". IDK, maybe I'm spoiled by good action series that stuff like this isn't impressive.

Final Thoughts

This anime is honestly, pretty sub-par. It didn't make me want to rage-quit like Strawberry Panic, but it didn't leave me wanting to come back for more. I can see potential in this, largely because of Episode 3 being a tiny bit better than the previous 2 episodes. But I am not a fan of slow starts and since this series is 13 episodes, having about 25% of it be sub-par doesn't do a good job convincing me to continue watching. This isn't counting the stupid attempts at Comedy, my god that was cringe-worthy.

But as it stands, this show is sub-par. It's 13 episodes, so if you want to watch it, it won't take that long, but yeah. Time for the score.

Rating: C-(60%)
Continue or Drop? : Drop . I'm sorry, but even if it does get better, the first three episodes didn't convince me enough to stay.

So that concludes my First Impressions. Have a great day and I will see you next time for my First Impressions on:
